Ag Gallery will celebrate 20 years in business on Friday 10th September 2021.
It only seems like yesterday!
My first shop was located on Bath Street in Bakewell in part of a building which was formerly Hicks, a family run furniture shop. It was a charming stone built building which was beautifully cool in the summer months and freezing cold in the winter!
We were tucked away a little bit, but people soon began to find us with the help of three strategically placed, if highly controversial A-boards. We traded here happily until 2008 when the opportunity arose to move around the corner. Still part of the same building, but now on Bridge Street with a more prominent location and rent to match!
By now a very loyal customer base had been built as the shop established a reputation as the place to visit for something out of the ordinary. Many of these customers I now regarded as good friends, and buying decisions were often made with specific customers in mind.
During this time the shop survived an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease with all that entailed for a vibrant market town, as well as a major economic recession. This was largely due to my lovely loyal customers who continued to support us throughout.
Finally in 2016 we took the decision to move again to Bank Road, Matlock, which offered free parking and a very short commute to work for me! The move went well, but it is here we faced our greatest challenge to date.....a global pandemic with periods of enforced closure and the need to embrace new ways of trading.
However, thanks to you all, we are still here, offering an amazing collection of contemporary, design-led jewellery and still daring to be different!
